    What Is An Inside Out Omelette 

    Have you heard of a reverse omelette? It’s also called an inside out omelette and this recipe is all over TikTok. Basically, instead of cooking the eggs first and adding toppings to them, you cook the cheese and meat first.

    Then, add the eggs to the top! When the eggs are cooked, fold the omelette over and the eggs are now on the inside. 

    It’s a really easy way for beginners to make an omelette. Honestly, trying to flip delicate eggs into an omelet is unnecessarily difficult. It really doesn’t have to be that hard! Just turn it inside out! 

    And on a related note: you can spell it omelet or omelette. They are both correct. Americans spell it omelet and Europeans spell it omelette. I’ll use both spellings in this recipe.

    • Ground breakfast sausage
    • Butter
    • Olive oil
    • Spinach leaves
    • Mozzarella cheese shredded
    • Eggs
    • Minced garlic
    • Bell pepper chopped
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Ingredient Substitutions 

    Be creative with this inside out omelette! There are so many different ways you can make it. If you make changes, let me know in the comments.

    Here are some of the easiest ingredient swaps you can make. 

    • Sausage: Use either mild or spicy breakfast sausage or swap it out for cooked bacon.
    • Spinach: Kale is a fantastic swap for baby spinach in an omelet. 
    • Peppers: For some spice, add some jalapeno or habanero peppers. 

    Best Sausage For Keto Omelette

    Since this is a keto-friendly omelette, always read the ingredients and make sure you aren’t using a maple-sweetened sausage. Any savory breakfast sausage will taste fantastic in it, though.

    I personally love the inside out omelette! It’s easy to make and looks really fancy and impressive (but it’s actually easier to make than a traditional omelette).

    A keto inside out omelette looks fancy and tastes delicious enough to show off at a brunch! It tastes best when it’s hot, so make it fresh.

    Since this is an iconic breakfast recipe, serve it with your favorite breakfast foods. Start with a keto brown sugar shaken espresso. Then, add some keto pancake mix cinnamon donuts to the table for some sweet flavors.

    A slice of keto ham and cheese quiche is a classic at any brunch. And for something sweeter, don’t forget to make some keto ricotta toast.

    Store the cooked inside out omelettes in an airtight storage container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days. 

    Freezing

    Yes, you can freeze a keto omelette! Store each one separate so they don’t freeze together. They will stay fresh in the freezer for up to six months. 

    Making It

    Here are the ingredients and steps to make this reverse keto omelette recipe. The exact measurements and instructions are in the printable recipe card, just a little below. 

    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 15-20 minutes
    Servings: 2
    Net Carbs: 6 net carbs per serving

    Raw ground sausage

    Add the butter to a skillet over medium high heat. Stir in the ground sausage and bell peppers, and saute until the meat is completely browned.

    Mix in the minced garlic, spinach and salt and pepper to taste, and saute until the spinach has wilted. Set aside. In a small skillet, spread ½ of the olive oil.

    Sprinkle in ½ of the cheese, and allow it to brown and crisp up for a minute or two.

    Whisk together the eggs in a bowl. Pour half of the egg mixture into the skillet with the cheese, and cook until it is
    beginning to set.

    Place half of the sausage filling on one half of the egg in the skillet, and gently flip the other half of the egg up and over it to form an omelette.

    Flip the omelette to finish browning the other side, and then remove to serve. Repeat the above steps to make the second omelette.
