Sticky sweet and still sugar-free, this keto honey butter chicken is a dinner meal that replaces takeout and fills you up!
Honey Chicken Keto
Have you heard of honey chicken? You might find it at some Chinese restaurants. It is usually battered chicken covered in a sticky honey sauce. I’ve heard that this recipe originated in Australia and became popular in American Chinese restaurants.
There is a really popular honey butter chicken recipe going viral on TikTok – this is NOT that recipe. The viral TikTok Honey Butter Chicken recipe is crispier and a bit sweeter. Check out the TikTok chicken recipe if that’s what you’re looking for.
In order to keep my recipe low-carb (and easier to make), I skipped the breading step. I tossed the chicken thigh pieces in the sweet and tangy sauce.
My kids loved this recipe so much that they asked for seconds! I love that this recipe is low in sugar and high in protein.
Honey Butter Chicken
The combination of sugar-free honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar create a sauce that is both salty, sweet, and tangy simultaneously.
Adding butter to this mixture is essential. It gives the chicken thighs more healthy fats, and helps all the ingredients stick together better.
If you are sensitive or allergic to gluten, use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. To keep this recipe completely dairy-free, use ghee instead of butter.
Keto Chicken Thighs
Chicken thighs are the best cut of meat to use in this recipe. You can use chicken breast, but they will turn out a bit dryer than the thighs, which isn’t as pleasant.
In fact, if you want to use chicken breasts, I suggest breading them in almond flour and pork rind crumbs to lock in the juices.
You can also make this recipe with your air fryer. Cook the chicken thigh strips in the air fryer until they reach an internal temperature of 165F. While they are cooking, heat the sticky honey sauce on the stove.
When the thighs are fully cooked, toss them in the heated sauce and serve them.
What To Serve With Chicken Thighs
This is a classic Chinese restaurant meal, so serve them with your favorite keto Chinese recipes. My kids love munching on some soy sauce eggs on the side. Or add some veggies to the table with keto bang bang cauliflower.
You can never go wrong with a hot bowl of keto ramen soup. It’s a perfect starter or lunch addition. It’s easy to customize, so kiddos can make it taste exactly how they want by adding their favorite toppings.
Keto Sticky Chicken
This keto sticky chicken tastes the best when it is fresh off the stove. You can still use it in your meal prep. Since it isn’t breaded chicken, it will last up to four or five days in the refrigerator.
Store it in an airtight food storage container. You can then add this chicken to some keto cauliflower fried rice for a filling lunch.
Remember to use sugar-free honey. Any other kind of liquid sweetener won’t have the honey flavor, which is essential to this recipe.
