Make your favorite holiday drink keto-friendly. This low-carb eggnog is rich and creamy and the perfect Christmas drink.
Does Eggnog Have Raw Eggs
This answer depends on where you bought it or who made it. If you buy eggnog from the store, it was made with raw pasteurized eggs. The pasteurization process makes them safe to eat.
In my recipe, you will temper the egg yolks, which makes them safe to consume. To do this, you’ll heat up the almond milk, Swerve confectioner’s sugar substitute, and heavy whipping cream.
Don’t let this boil, that would ruin the flavor and texture. Right before it boils, pour it over the egg yolks and whisk it constantly until they are mixed together.
Is Eggnog Keto-Friendly
The most popular brand of store-bought eggnog is Turkey Hill. In 1/2 a cup of Turkey Hill Eggnog there are 23 grams net carbs! So, no, eggnog is not keto-friendly.
That’s why I created this recipe. I used Swerve Confectioner’s sugar substitute to sweeten this drink. The result is an eggnog that only has 3 grams net carbs in each glass. Remember to use unsweetened almond milk – that’s how you keep that carb count so low.

Best Alcohol For Eggnog
I didn’t include alcohol in this recipe because I wanted to make a drink that kids can enjoy too. But if you want to spike the eggnog, I suggest using Brandy.
It’s traditionally what is used to mix into the eggnog and pairs really well with the nutmeg in the during. If you don’t like Brandy, you can use either Cognac or Dark Rum. Be aware that rum might have more carbs in it though.
Keto Holiday Recipes
Eggnog is one of the most iconic holiday drinks. You’ll see it in so many movies! Pour yourself a cup of eggnog and enjoy it with a bowl of keto spiced pecans. The nuttiness of the pecans will really enhance the nutmeg in the eggnog.
Or eat some keto pumpkin donuts with the eggnog. They are my favorite!
And if you’re hosting a party, then you’ve got to serve some keto butter pecan cheesecake with the eggnog. Everyone will love it!
How Long Does Eggnog Last
After you make the eggnog, drink it within three days. I like to store it in a mason jar with a lid so that I can shake it up before I drink it.
Can you freeze eggnog? I don’t recommend it. If you freeze and then thaw the eggnog, it won’t be as creamy as when you make it fresh.
